Empirical Communication Solutions was founded by Richard Armstrong in early 2024 as a means of consolidating language services within an increasingly digital-first world

Raised in the city of London (U.K.) and originally trained in electrical engineering, Richard changed his career path in the mid-1990s after spending several years on the island of Tenerife.
Holding a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) diploma from Teacher Training International in Kensington, London, and with a strong working knowledge of Spanish, he relocated to Central America. There, he began teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Guatemala City, remaining in-country for four years and later transitioning into Spanish–English document translation.
A couple of years before the new millennium, Richard moved to Peru, where he worked as national coordinator for an inaugural English Language Training Centre established by SENATI, a major provider of vocational training in the country. Alongside academic and administrative supervision and recruitment, he contributed to a nationwide programme integrating institutional processes into the ISO 9001 and 14001 frameworks. He remained in Peru for six years, also spending time in Quito, Ecuador.
By the mid-noughties, Richard had returned to mainland Spain, first in the province of Cádiz and later Málaga, where he worked as a freelance English teacher and designed in-house language programmes for local businesses. During this period, he also began teaching Spanish as a complement to his ESL/EFL portfolio.
In 2014, Richard collaborated with the newly established Marbella International University Centre (MIUC) as a language consultant during its inaugural stage, supporting the standardisation of processes in line with the requirements of the Junta de Andalucía and the Bologna Process.
He has travelled widely, including extended periods in North Africa and the Middle East (MENA), working on engineering projects, and has also taught English in Beirut, Lebanon.
Since mid-2024, Richard has been based in the city of Tbilisi, where he established Empirical Communication Solutions, providing English-language services to Georgia (Sakartvelo) and beyond.
He is fully English–Spanish bilingual.
